The amazing world of pokemon never fails to bring some wonderful, mysterious & unknown pokemons with extraordinary powers and exceptional capabilities, these creatures are called the legendary pokemons. They are found very rarely in the pokemon world and are almost always associated with some legends of power of creation or destruction in that region.
 1. Legendary Birds:-

We got to see the legendary pokemons for the very first time in generation -1(first series) of the Pokemon anime. In total we came across 3 of them, all were of flying type ,namely, Articuno (ice/flying type), Moltres (fire/flying type), Zapdos (electric/flying type).
Articuno was first seen in the games Pokemon red, green (in Japan), Zapdos was seen at the kanto power plant, Moltres could be captured in victory road.Pokemon Platinum featured the legendary birds as roaming in Sinnoh after the player defeats the Pokemon league.
While in the anime version, all three Legendary Pokemons appear in the film The Power of One,where they reside at Shamouti Island. There was a local legend that claimed that if the three began flying, only Lugia ( trio master) could calm the birds. Each of thse Legendary has also appeared in anime episodes.Their names comes from their controlling element and numbers one, two and three in spanish (uno -> one, dos -> two, tres-> three) and 'Arctic' referring to the geological region, 'Zap' usually associated with electric strike, and 'Molt' from molten, thus ice, electric and fire type.

In the Manga series, Zapdos, Moltes & Articuno are fused together to form a very powerful fused pokemon called Zapmolcuno ( 'Zap' from Zapdos, 'Mol' from Moltres & 'Cuno' from Articuno).
In the very popular game worldwide 'Pokemon Go', these three Legendary Birds are chief pokemon or Team icons in their respected teams, Articuno-> Mystic (blue), Moltres-> Valor (red) & Zapdos-> Instinct (Golden).

2. Mew duo:-

Arguably the most powerful pokemons, the Mew duo consists of two Legendary Pokemons, Mew and Mewtwo.Mew and Mewtwo both appeared in Pokemon red, green and blue as an event only Pokemon and as a hidden Pokemon respectively.Mew could only be obtained through a Japan only event 7 Mewtwo could be found within Cerulean Cave after completing the Pokedex.
In the anime, Mewtwo was the central Pokemon in 'Mewtwo Strikes Back' & 'Mewtwo Returns'; in the former , it was revealed that Mewtwo isa genetically-enhanced clone of Mew commisioned by Giovanni. After being controlled by Giovanni, Mewtwo sets out to control the entire world with its own clone pokemons. Mew appears in this movie as a foil of Mewtwo and defends itself from the latter's attacks while it was enraged, but it do not appear in Mewtwo Returns. Though both Pokemons appear in several episodes of the anime, they are listed below.

In Generation VI, Mewtwo was given two Mega Evolutions, Mewtwo X & Mewtwo Y, which feature different powers and abilities. The stones necessary to acuse the evolution are Mewtwonite X,which evolves Mewtwo into Mewtwo X ( Psychic/fighting type), and Mewtwonite Y, which evolves Mewtwo into Mewtwo Y (Psychic). The stones could originally be found in Pokemon X and Y season, respectively; both can be located in Pokemon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire.
In the game 'Pokemon Go' Mewtwo is listed at 150 in the pokedex and Mew is at 151.
